How to Break the "Matthew Effect" Rule in China?

Are you aware that your children could be forced to escape from their hometowns in the near future?

How to Break the "Matthew Effect" Rule in China?

The "Matthew Effect" denotes the phenomenon that "the rich get richer and the poor get poorer." Its cruelty exists everywhere. In China, under the circumstance of negative population growth, metropolitan cities constantly absorb huge amount of labor from the surrounding cities that are lagging behind. This is the ruthless rule of “survival of the fittest”. Because metropolis offer tremendous resources of politics, business, education and human capital, numerous ambitious young people are attracted to live in these big cities. In return, they turn into the huge capital resources to accelerate big cities' development, which facilitates the formation of the virtuous circle.

While small cities are devastated due to migration, metropolis like Beijing and Shanghai are becoming more prosperous than ever. While the big cities are absorbing excellent talents, they are pushing more people from the lower class to the suburbs by its rocket-high housing prices and the Hukou policy. People in the rich neighborhoods send their children to top schools whereas poorer people have little chance to get in.

Have you ever thought that what would have happened if the hare in the classic kids story, The Tortoise and the Hare, ran all the way to the finish line with full effort and undivided attention? It is a thought-provoking scenario. It becomes harder than ever for people from the lower social class to break in to the upper social hierarchy. That is another victory by Matthew Effect.

The biggest concern for us now is that if it is possible to break the social class norm. Yes, it is! Break the "rule" simply by getting an EMBA degree from a top U.S. business school!
